Animals and Hot Summer Days

Today is a happy day! I love talking about our fur babies. Let’s talk about summer and our pets! Days can still get extremely hot and sometimes we forget how heat affects the animals. It is so important to make sure you are all prepared during hot weather to care for a companion animal.

If you are feeling warm, chances they are feeling warmer!
Heatstroke is common with dogs especially short-nosed or flat-faced dog breeds are more sensitive to heatstroke.

It is a good idea to get water Fountain for your pets, Faucet Transparent Drinking fountain with Super Quiet Pump is great option https://amzn.to/3a7Bir9

Water water water! Make sure to provide plenty of fresh, cold water (always a good idea if you can add some ice in it.) If your pet seems to be in discomfort, try wetting their feet and their face. My dog Alex loved a wet towel on the floor when it was very hot. It is ideal to bring pets indoors on hot days. Make sure you have enough shady, cool area in your garden if they prefer to be outside.

If you have small pets such as guinea pigs, rabbits or birds, they are particularly sensitive to heat also. Please bring these animals indoors during hot weather.
Good idea to have a small any type of pool in the shade and fill it with water so your dog can wade in the water to keep cool.

Please organise your walks on hot days, ground that feels hot to touch can do serious damage to your pooch’s paws.

Sadly we still see people leaving their pets in cars! It takes only minutes for an animal to suffer an agonising death if left in a hot car. If you realise there is an animal left in the car do something about it, immediately call the police or animal protection services. If you live in a country like Turkey (where I was born) where there are stray animals, leave small bowls of water in your garden so stray animals or wildlife can keep cool too

Shaving your dog!!! You may think shaving your dog would cool them down. However, their double coats are designed to keep dogs warm or cool depending on the weather. They naturally shed their undercoat during summer, allowing their skin to remain cooler. If you shaved them, growing back the undercoat can make dogs even hotter. Their topcoat also prevents sunburn.

Always spend a little bit of time, make frozen treats can help them with hot summer days!

Couple of treats I always like to make is

Yoghurt, peanut butter banana dog treats recipe. (coconut oil for dogs is amazing. )

1 cup: 200 ml

  •  2 cup of Plain Yogurt
  • 2 Tablespoons Peanut Butter (make sure it contains no xylitol)
  • 1 Large Banana, sliced

Put all ingredients into a food processor, blend until creamy

Fill a silicone mould with the mixture

Freeze for at least 3-4 hours

or

1/2 cup coconut oil in solid form

1 cup frozen blueberries

1 tablespoon peanut butter

1 banana

Put the banana and the peanut butter into a food processor, blend until creamy

Place a frozen blueberry into the silicone mould.

In a small saucepan, heat coconut oil until it liquefies.

Mix with peanut butter and banana mixture, then carefully pour oil into the mould over the berries.

Carefully place the mould into the freezer to solidify.

When coconut oil treats are solid, pop them out of the mould.

Store coconut oil treats in the freezer.

I hope the tips helpful for you and your lovely pets and please let us know if there are any other ideas that may help our fur babies in this hot summer day

Stay safe and love love love all the animals
