Healthy dinner for our fur babies

ANIMALSFOODRECIPES

If I had a dog right now or when I have my next companion, I think I’ll go for homemade recipes more frequently than buying everything from the shelf. The processed foods for animals (as well as humans) in supermarkets are full of chemicals and preservatives, which are not exactly ideal for them to consume continuously (same for us humans too).

When we are cooking for ourselves, it is so easy to get a meal ready for our fur babies in the meantime. You can find all the necessary information on the Internet and choose the right recipes for you and your pets in no time!

Dogs are usually less fussy with eating homemade food but if your cat likes human food too, then the recipe below may work like a charm for everyone

Homemade cooking is the best for you and your loved ones! Just sayin’

Ok, some basic information first…

Home cooked meals for pets should have the following daily nutritional ratios:

  • 60% Protein: This can be beef or lamb, chicken, turkey, oily fish like tuna, salmon, whitefish, sardines, cod and whiting or eggs to improve muscle growth and tissue repair
  • 10% Meat Fat: Oil or egg yolks to help with healthy joints, a shiny coat and the absorption the fat-soluble vitamins (if you are using sardines you wouldn’t need this)
  • 30% Carbohydrates: From vegetables and grains like lentils, oatmeal, quinoa, brown rice or pasta, white rice for energy and digestive health.
  • Calcium: You can powder eggshells or you can use ready supplements for bone health. (Even for us, some evidence suggests that the calcium in eggshell powder may be better absorbed than pure calcium carbonate, making it an effective calcium supplement). Half of an eggshell provides enough calcium to meet the daily requirements for adults, which is 1,000 mg per day.

INGREDIENTS

  • 2 kg of ground beef
  • 2.5 cups of cooked brown rice (or lentils, brown rice or quinoa)
  • 3 cups of mixed vegetables of your choice
  • You can add 2 tbsp. of eggshells and 2 tbsp. cod liver oil

METHOD:

– Cook the meat and rice together and add veggies just before the meat is fully cooked.

– Alternatively, you can cook the meat, add the vegetables at the last minute, then mix everything with ready-cooked brown rice or quinoa with the eggshells and cod liver oil.

– The number of servings will depend on the size of your pet. When it is cooked, you can portion it as you like and keep it in the fridge for up to 3 days.

I hope you will try this recipe and let us know if your loved ones like it?

Stay safe and enjoy the time with your pets.
