Walking into the sea from a sunny beach in my bikini, a perfect holiday

When the sun comes down

I can feel my love coming back again…

There are so many good memories I have about the Dominican Republic. When I think about it, it always makes me smile!

Lying under the palm tree on white-sand enjoying your fresh coconut just picked a minute ago, watching people running around having fun! There is a song you can recognise, a young couple dancing on the beach. When you turn your head around a man is having a massage, and his wife is fighting to get the best price for some handmade jewellery!

When the sun goes down you can order your food from the restaurant, and when your food is ready someone will wave at you. You don’t need to dress to get there. One thing in the Dominican Republic you will love to get used to, is the big smile on everyone’s face. They all welcome you, talk to you, and help you!

If you are on a short holiday or you are a long term tourist in town, you will always be a ‘gringo’. That is the term used for tourists. The concept of time is different in the Dominican Republic. It is common to arrive 45 minutes later than planned.

There is a different approach to everything. You just need to relax and enjoy what comes next!

Sosua

I would like to talk about Sosua in Puerta Plata, a popular destination for sun holidays.

There are many options for affordable hotels with a wonderful location, right on the beach. Beaches here are festive for locals and holidaymakers. If you like music you will enjoy loudspeakers. You can relax all day, or you can join parasailing or other water sport activities.

I had a chance to live in this dream town for 5 years and now spend every holiday there if I get a chance. It is one of the best beach towns anywhere in the Dominican Republic.

Only 4 miles from the La Union International Airport, it makes life so much easier after a long flight from Europe. White sandy beaches and clear waters teeming with coral make Sosua perfect for diving and snorkelling. The town has great hotels. One of my favourite place in town is Casa Ventiuno! This elegant and exclusive small hotel is a piece of heaven. Owners Saskia and Marc are an amazing couple who will make you feel like home. It has a very nice atmosphere with a great modern interior. And the food is to die for! You can wake up in the morning with the birds singing, you can have a relaxing morning at the pool, or you can walk down to Sosua beach for a swim. The restaurant is open to the public also.

Even if you don’t get the chance to stay here, make sure to spend an evening in the restaurant to enjoy the exceptional food created with fresh local products.

There is so much to talk about the Dominican Republic. I will share more of my experiences in my future blog posts. Please share your experiences if you ever been Sosua and the Dominican Republic.

Stay safe
